Been thinking about doing a One-page on Honeybees for quite some time. I wanted to get super-creative on this. Unfortunately things didn't quite go as I had hoped. Read on if you would like to know more about them and the renders of the 3D bee that, in the end, I chose not to use.
The graphics
Much of the ideas for the info and graphics came from other graphics I found online. I took the imagery and info and recreated them from the ground up in Adobe Illustrator. I made a strong attempt at using a limited color scheme to reinforce the harmony of the layout. Overall I think it works pretty good.

This is a general infographic on how bees go about foraging resources for the colony in their very short lives. Also includes some interesting facts in the lower right corner. |

I thought this would be interesting. Never imagined so many bee resources were dedicated to this single, tastey nut. |

The 3D bee
Here is the 3D bee (Created in Blender 2.7) and flower I ended up not using as the primary illustration on the NIE page. The idea was to nail down a basic model, then take a render into Photoshop, and hand illustrate all the hair and other details. In the end I just didn't have the time to make the illustration come to fruition. But here are several renders of the bee directly from Blender.
I am generally pleased with how the model turned out. But I think the legs could use some more polishing. They just seem to be too long. Makes it look a bit like a wasp in my opinion. Of course maybe they are not. Perhaps what the model needs is some hair and scrunch the legs together more. What ever the case, I have much to learn about modeling, rigging and animating.
